Road bikes

Road bikes, as the name suggests, are designed for travel over paved surfaces. They are most often used for racing and long distance cycling trips, but are also popular with those that simply want something to pedal around town. They can be easily found through just about any local bike shop.

The very first bicycles were, in fact, road bikes. First introduced during the early 19th century, bicycles were a bit of a curiosity. However, they quickly became one of the most popular ways to get around the cities and towns of Europe and eventually every other corner of the glove.

Today, road bikes are considerably more sophisticated than their early predecessors. The more expensive varieties are often made from high-tech carbon fiber materials and are extremely lightweight. Fortunately, for the general population, there are many less expensive options available as well.
